The Ultimate Guide to Saturnia Hot Springs
Saturnia has been on my bucket list for such a long time, and I finally made it there this spring. Saturnia is one of the most beautiful areas of Tuscany & is home to , a series of natural cascading hot springs that form a group of visually striking pools with views of the Tuscan countryside.
It’s one of the most unique places I’ve visited and I highly recommend a trip to Saturnia, not just for the hot springs, but because it is one of the most beautiful areas of Tuscany I’ve visited. Keep reading for my full guide on visiting Saturnia and the hot springs!

Getting to Saturnia Hot Springs
Saturnia is located about halfway between Rome and Florence, and can be visited from either city. It’s a bit of a long day trip, but doable from both. If you have time I’d recommend spending a night or two in Saturnia and exploring the general area.
It’s not really possible to visit the hot springs from Rome or Florence by public transportation. You’ll need to rent a car from either city and drive to get to the springs and the surrounding area. There are very limited public transport options, and the ones that do exist drop you off fairly far from the hot springs, so you’d need to walk quite far.
To get to the hot springs you’ll want to find “Cascate del Mulino-Hot Spring” in Google maps. This is the location of the cascading hot springs you’ve seen on Instagram. If you put Saturnia in, it will take you to the town that is about a 7 minute drive from the hot springs. Also, the “Terme di Saturnia” is the paid spa/thermal baths located nearby.
Getting to Saturnia from Florence
The drive from Florence to Saturnia takes about 2 hours and 50 minutes.
Getting to Saturnia from Rome
The drive from Rome to Saturnia takes about 2 hours and 20 minutes without traffic.
Saturnia Hot Springs Parking
There is a large parking lot located about a 5 minute walk from the hot springs. You shouldn’t have any problem finding parking as the lot is very big. There are parking meters there that accept cash or card. Parking was 2 euros per hour in April of 2023.
Saturnia Hot Springs Cost
The hot springs are free to enter (parking is paid, see section above) This is for the Cascate del Mulino di Saturnia (the cascading waterfall hot springs)
If you choose to visit the Terme di Saturnia (the spa across the street) you will need to pay to enter.
Saturnia Hot Springs Tips
- go early or later in the day. It can get quite crowded and detract from the experience
- there is an on site snack bar that serves drinks, snacks, alcohol and more
- there are locker rooms and bathrooms (paid)
- the rocks can be a bit rough, so you may want water shoes if you have sensitive feet
- there are small, red worms in the natural pools – they are harmless and nothing to worry about
- in terms of timing you probably don’t need more than about 2 hours at the hot springs
- the best views of the hot springs are actually from across the hot springs. You can either walk across the little river and climb up a bit to get good views, or you can drive to the viewpoint here for epic views of the cascading waterfalls with the stunning backdrop of the Tuscan countryside.
Where to Stay in Saturnia
I recommend staying in Saturnia if you have time vs. visiting as a day trip from Rome or Florence (it would be a long day from both) And Saturnia has some of the most stunning Tuscan countryside I’ve seen, plus some of the most epic sunsets.
II stayed at the Saturnia Tuscany Hotel and cannot recommend it enough. This stunning resort is about 5 minutes from the main town of Saturnia and offers stunning views over the town and the Tuscan countryside (plus amazing sunset views!)
The hotel has a pool, a bar/terrace, an on-site restaurant that is delicious! It also has an amazing breakfast that is included with your stay.
From the hotel it’s about a 5 minute drive to the Saturnia Hot Springs.
