I’ve compiled a series of itineraries based on the number of days you have in Greece & what you are most hoping to see, spend, how much travel you want to do, etc. On a budget? Skip Mykonos. Looking for adventure? Try Crete. First time in Greece and looking for the quintessential Greek vacation? Santorini is a must.
Select the number of days you’re looking to plan a trip for below and view a variety of itineraries for that time frame! Also, click here for a map of the Greek islands with their commonly used names. Google uses the Greek names and sometimes I have a hard time navigating which island is which! (Santorini, for example, is Thera, ion Google Maps)

5 Day Greece Itinerary
If you’re heading to Greece for a shorter trip I recommend sticking to 2-3 places so you have time to explore, but also some time to relax and enjoy yourself!
- 5 Days in Athens, Santorini & Mykonos – best for first time in Greece
- 5 Days in Athens & Crete – best for adventure & budget travelers
- 5 Days in Athens, Corfu, Paxos & Antipaxos – best for nature lovers & sandy beaches
5 Days in Athens, Santorini & Mykonos
If you’re on your first trip to Greece and are looking to hit the spots you’ve seen in movies and on Instagram I’d recommend going with the three most famous spots!
- Day 1: Athens
- Day 2: Ferry to Mykonos
- Day 3: Mykonos
- Day 4: Ferry to Santorini
- Day 5: Santorini
This itinerary gives you a day to explore Athens, which is enough time to see the highlights! You can see my full one day in Athens Itinerary here. Then head to the infamous Greek islands. Santorini & Mykonos are the two most famous and I think they’re both worth a visit!
This itinerary also allows you to travel by ferry (some of the islands are easier reached by plane) Athens to Mykonos is just under 3 hours via ferry and they run many times a day. Two days gives you plenty of time to explore Mykonos. You can see my full Mykonos travel guide here for details on where to stay, what to do, best restaurants and more! Mykonos has some of my favorite sunsets on the planet!
Spend your last two days on picturesque, epic Santorini. Santorini is about two hours from Mykonos via ferry. Santorini is a bucket list destination for a reason and 2 days is enough time to relax and explore for the end of your vacation. You can find my full Santorini Travel Guide here for details on where to stay. My two days in Santorini itinerary can also be found here.

5 Days in Athens & Crete
If you’ve visited Santorini and Mykonos before or are looking for a bit more of an authentic experience (and a cheaper trip) I highly recommend heading to Crete, my personal favorite of the Greek islands.
- Day 1: Athens
- Day 2: Fly to Crete
- Day 3: Crete – Chania
- Day 4: Crete – Elafonisi & Falasarna Beach
- Day 5: Crete – Balos Beach & Kissamos
This itinerary gives you a day to explore Athens and hit the highlights. My one day in Athens itinerary can be found here! The next morning, catch a 40 minute flight from Athens to Chania, one of the main towns in Greece, and my suggestion as a homebase for a first time trip to Crete. Crete is huge and there is so much to see. I highly recommend renting a car for Crete, as it can be hard to see the highlights without one!
Crete is the biggest of the Greek islands and to see it all you’d need much more than 3 days, but in 3 days you can explore a lot of Western Crete from Chania. Western Crete is home to many of the highlights of Crete, including some of the most infamous beaches in the world! You can find my details 3 day in Crete itinerary here, but at a high level I recommend taking a day to explore Chania, a day at Elafonisi and Falasarna Beach & a day venturing to Balos Beach and exploring Kissamos.
Travel Guides to Help with Planning:
5 Days in Athens, Corfu, Paxos & Antipaxos
If you’re looking for a unique Greece itinerary featuring epic beaches, some lesser explored Greek islands, and lush greenery, I recommend this 5 day Athens and Ionian island itinerary.
- Day 1: Athens
- Day 2: Fly to Corfu
- Day 3: Corfu Town
- Day 4: Corfu – Northern Corfu Highlights
- Day 5: Paxos & Antipaxos Day Trip from Corfu
This Athens and Ionian Islands Itinerary gives you one day to explore Athens and hit the highlights! Alternatively, you could spend 2 days in Athens and 3 in Corfu, but personally I think you can see a lot of Athens in one day if you don’t mind a jam packed day! My one day in Athens itinerary can be found here.
From Athens, you’ll fly to Corfu, this is a super short flight, less than an hour and you’ll be on sunny Corfu! I highly recommend renting a car to explore all Corfu has to offer. Corfu has some of the best beaches in Greece, and I highly recommend choosing a resort on the West Coast of Corfu to take full advantage of its sandy beaches and epic sunsets. You can find my guide on where to stay in Corfu here.
I recommend taking days 3 & 4 to explore Corfu. There is tons to see in Corfu – Corfu Town, Northern Corfu and the West Coast of Corfu are my top recommendations for where to explore on a first trip to Corfu. You can see my full Corfu Road Trip guide here that highlights all the best stops from Corfu Town up the East Coast, across the Northern Coast of Corfu and heading down the West coast. I recommend doing this over two days if you have time!
For day 5 I recommend taking a boat day trip to Paxos and Antipaxos. There are many guided boat tours from Corfu that allow you to explore the stunning beaches of Antipaxos, the infamous Blue Caves of the islands that can only be reached via boat, and explore the charming island of Paxos on your own for a few hours.

7 Day Greece Itinerary
If you have a full week to explore Greece it gives you the opportunity to see a bunch of different places or to stay a little longer in a few places to add in some relaxation!
- 7 Days in Athens, Mykonos, Santorini & Crete – best for seeing the highlights & exploring a variety of places
- 7 Days in Athens & the Cyclades – Mykonos, Paros, Naxos & Santorini – best for minimalizing travel
- 7 Days in Athens, Crete & Corfu – best for beaches & adventure lovers
7 Days in Athens, Mykonos, Santorini & Crete
If it’s your first time visiting Greece and you have 7 days to explore I highly recommend visiting 4 of Greece’s most infamous spots. Historic Athens, lavish Mykonos, romantic Santorini and authentic Crete. This itinerary has a bit of everything and none of these places will disappoint!
- Day 1: Athens
- Day 2: Ferry to Mykonos
- Day 3: Ferry to Santorini
- Day 4: Santorini
- Day 5: Fly to Crete – Chania
- Day 6: Crete – Elafonisi & Falasarna Beach
- Day 7: Crete – Balos Beach & Kissamos
This itinerary kicks off with a day in Athens to explore the highlights of the infamous, historical city. This one day in Athens itinerary allows you to see the historical highlights, and a spend a relaxing evening having a rooftop dinner & drinks as the sun sets over the Acropolis (this is a can’t miss Athens experience!)
From Athens, grab the ferry to Mykonos. It takes about 3 hours to get to Mykonos via ferry. I recommend grabbing an early ferry to get to Mykonos early. To me, Mykonos can be seen in one day, so I recommend one day in Mykonos before heading to Santorini, but if you’re interested in partying in Mykonos, you can swap this itinerary and do two days in Mykonos and one in Santorini. My full Mykonos travel guide can be found here. But don’t miss Little Venice, Mykonos Town, and sunset at the infamous windmills in Little Venice.
From Mykonos grab the ferry to Santorini, it takes around 2 hours. I’d recommend spending 2 days in Santorini. I’ve put together my 2 days in Santorini itinerary here. With two days you can explore Oia, Fira and Imperovigli – the three main towns of Santorini. Don’t miss the world-famous sunset from Oia. There is a nice hike between the 3 of them if you’re up for it! With your second day in Santorini you can try some of the other highlights – some of my favorites are a visit to Santo Wines and a Caldera boat tour.
I recommend ending your trip in Crete. Crete is the largest of the Greek islands and my personal favorite. It’s less touristy than Santorini and Mykonos and feels a bit more authentic to me! Also, it’s super cheap compared to the popular Santorini and Mykonos. To get the Crete you’ll need to fly. From Santorini this will require flying through Athens (most flights between the Greek islands have a layover in Athens) Aegean operates tons of these flights with short layovers in Athens and I’ve never had any issues with them. It shouldn’t take more than 3-4 hours to get from Santorini to Chania, Crete via plane.
Once you get to Crete I recommend basing yourself in Chania, the most charming of Crete’s major cities, and closest to some of Crete’s must-see spots and beaches. Crete is huge, so with 3 days you’ll be able to explore highlights of the west coast. If you want to explore the South and East coasts you’ll need some more time! See my full 3 day Crete itinerary with full details on how I’d spend my time, but I recommend a day in Chania, a day at Elafonisi and Falasarna Beach and a third day exploring Balos Beach & Kissamos. You’ll definitely need a car to explore Crete!
Travel Guides to Help with Planning:
7 Days in Athens & the Cyclades – Mykonos, Paros, Naxos, & Santorini
If you have a week to explore, but would prefer not to add another flight to your itinerary by heading to Crete, you could explore more of the Cyclades Islands. These are all in the same group of islands and are easily navigated between via ferry! Paros and Naxos can both be done easily as a day trip from Mykonos (ferry is less than an hour) or you could choose to spend a night on each island if you don’t mind switching hotels!
- Day 1: Athens
- Day 2: Ferry to Mykonos
- Day 3: Mykonos
- Day 4: Ferry to Naxos
- Day 5: Ferry to Paros
- Day 6: Ferry to Santorini
- Day 7: Santorini
This 7 day itinerary gives you lots of time to explore some of the highlights of the Cyclades! Greece has so many islands it’s impossible to see them all, but this itinerary (while packed) allows you to visit 4 nearby islands that each have something different to offer.
This itinerary kicks off with a day in Athens, I always recommend spending at least one day in Athens on any Greece trip since you generally need to fly through there anyways. Athens is one of my favorite cities, and I could spend much longer there, but one day gives you enough time to see the highlights before hitting the islands! My one day Athens itinerary is here to help you see as much as you can in one day, while still leaving time for drinks with views!
Next, head to Mykonos for two days. Mykonos is one of the most beautiful Greek islands, but also one of the most popular, so be prepared to splurge a bit on accommodations and food. Two days is plenty to explore Mykonos in my opinion, before heading to Naxos. See my Mykonos travel guide here.
You can choose to spend one night in Naxos and one in Paros, or pick one to stay at for two nights and visit the other as a day trip. The two islands are a very short ferry ride apart (30 minutes) If you’re choosing one to stay at between the two, I’d choose Paros, but do recommend trying to see both if you’re feeling up for it. Otherwise use your second day in Paros to relax! For both Paros and Naxos you’ll likely want to rent a car to explore!
Last, but not least, grab a ferry to Santorini for your last two days. It takes about an hour and a half from Paros to Santorini on the fast ferry. Picturesque, romantic Santorini is the a great place to wrap up your Greece adventure. I’ve compiled my ultimate two days in Santorini itinerary here.
Travel Guides to Help with Planning:
7 Days in Athens, Crete & Corfu
If you’re looking for an adventurous trip full of mountains, secluded beaches, road trips, amazing food, and getting to explore islands outside of Mykonos, Santorini & the Cyclades, this is the itinerary for you! Crete and Corfu were two of my favorite islands, I loved the mountains, greenery and the epic beaches. This itinerary does require flying to both islands (although the flights are quite short and generally cheap through Aegean.
- Day 1: Athens
- Day 2: Fly to Crete – Chania
- Day 3: Crete – Elafonisi & Falasarna Beach
- Day 4: Crete – Balos Beach & Kissamos
- Day 5: Fly to Corfu
- Day 6: Corfu
- Day 7: Corfu
Start your trip off in Athens with a day exploring all of it’s highlights. Despite being a large city, you can see a lot of the highlights of Athens in one day. See my one day in Athens itinerary here! From Athens, grab a 40 minute flight to Chania. Chania is one of the main cities in Crete (and my personal favorite)
Chania is charming and worth spending the rest of your day exploring, but it’s also well located for visiting some of Crete’s top sites. I recommend spending your next two days venturing to those locations from Chania. To maximize your time in Crete, you’ll definitely want a car. See my 3 days in Crete itinerary for details on visiting the highlights of Western Crete, like Elafonisi, Falasarana & Balos beaches, and Kissamos!
From Crete, you’ll fly back to Athens (40 minutes) and catch a connecting flight to Corfu (1 hour flight) If you leave Crete in the morning you can be in Corfu by lunch! I also recommend renting car for your time in Corfu. Corfu is huge, and like Crete, many of the best places tend to be a little more remote and hard to reach via public transport. Corfu has so many amazing places to see and explore, I’ve put together my Corfu road trip guide here with recommendations on the top spots to see!

From Athens grab the ferry to Mykonos (about 3 hours) Take days 2 & 3 to explore the charming, luxurious Mykonos. Mykonos is one of the most beautiful Greek islands and the sunsets are epic. It’s also one of the most glamorous, so be prepared to splurge a bit. You can see my full Mykonos Travel guide here for where to stay, what to do, getting around & more.
Next, take the short ferry ride from Mykonos to Paros. Spend days 4 & 5 exploring nearby islands Paros & Naxos (or if you want to reduce travel, just spend two days in Paros) You can also spend two nights in Paros and take the ferry to Naxos for one day for a short day trip! Both islands are easier to explore via car, so you’ll want to rent a car for these days, unless you’re just chilling beachside.
From Paros. head south to Santorini via ferry (about 2 hours) Spend the next two days exploring stunning Santorini. Don’t miss Oia, Fira & Imperovigli the three main towns. If you want to rent a car you can explore some of the harder to reach sites like the unique red & white beaches. Some of my favorites: sunset in Oia, Santo Wines, hiking from Fira to Oia & a Caldera boat tour! See my two day itinerary here!
From Santorini fly to my favorite Greek island, Crete. This will require a quick stopover in Athens. Both flights are less than an hour long. I recommend basing yourself in Chania in Western Crete (my personal favorite area, especially if it’s your first time in Crete. Spend your final 3 days exploring Chania, and venturing to 3 of Crete’s most infamous beaches (known as some of the best beaches in the world) Balos, Elafonisi & Falasarna. My 3 day Crete itinerary can be found here.
Travel Guides to Help with Planning:
10 Days in Athens & The Cyclades – Mykonos, Naxos, Paros, Santorini & Ios
If you want to see a lot of different Greek islands, but also limit your travel on your ten day trip to Greece I recommend exploring one island group. The Cyclades is the most well-known, home to the infamous Santorini and Mykonos, but also a bunch of other stunning Greek islands, ten days gives you a great amount of time to spend a day in Athens and then explore the Cyclades!
- Day 1: Athens
- Day 2: ferry to Mykonos
- Day 3: Mykonos
- Day 4: Ferry to Paros
- Day 5: Paros
- Day 6: Ferry to Naxos
- Day 7: Naxos
- Day 8: Ferry to Santorini
- Day 9: Santorini
- Day 10: Ferry to Ios
Spend the first day of your trip exploring the highlights of Athens. Athens is a large city, but in one day you can explore the main historical sites, venture through the charming, winding alleys of Plaka & catch an epic sunset from one of Athens many rooftop bars/restaurants. Check out my one day in Athens itinerary here!
Next grab a ferry and head to the Cyclades! First stop, Mykonos. Spend two days in Mykonos exploring Little Venice & Mykonos Town, catching some of the best sunsets in Greece from the infamous windmills, and enjoying the epic beach parties, if that’s your vibe.
I recommend stopping in Mykonos, even if you’re not there for the party scene. It truly is stunning, despite being a bit over-touristy and overpriced as a result! If you want to skip the beach parties, but hit the beach, try the 5 beach “hike” between 5 of Mykonos most popular beaches. It’s more of a walk and you can stop for swimming, food and drinks on the way! Mykonos Travel Guide here for all the details on how to spend two days in Mykonos.
Spend your next two days in Paros. Paros is one of the prettiest islands in the Cyclades. Rent a car and drive the route on around the coast, stopping in the charming towns and at the nicest beaches along the way. Then take a short ferry ride to nearby Naxos for your next two days. You’ll also want to rent a car in Naxos, as it’s a bit hard to explore without one. Naxos is a lush island known for it’s olive growing and citrus plants. It’s a bit more laid back than Paros and Mykonos!
For days 8-10 head to infamous Santorini. You’ll want to spend at least two of those three days exploring all that Santorini has to offer – sunsets in Oia, nightlife in Fira, delicious wineries, a Caldera boat tour & more! My two day Santorini travel itinerary can be found here. If after two days in Santorini you’re up for one more day trip, grab the ferry to Ios and spend the day exploring one more island of the Cyclades before heading home! Ios is known for it’s sandy beaches (something you won’t find in Santorini) and it’s party scene (Santorini caters a bit more to honeymooners)
Travel Guides to Help with Planning:
10 Days in Athens, Crete, Corfu, Paxos & Antipaxos
If you’re looking to avoid the main touristy areas of Greece and want a bit more of a unique itinerary with epic beaches, stunning mountains, delicious food, and more, this 10 day itinerary is for you. You’ll need to fly a few times to get between Athens, Crete and Corfu, but the flights are short and cheap between the Greek islands!
- Day 1: Athens
- Day 2: fly to Crete – Chania
- Day 3: Crete – Elafonisi & Falasarna
- Day 4: Crete – Knossos and Heraklion
- Day 5: Crete – Samaria Gorge
- Day 6: Crete – Balos & Kissamos
- Day 7: Fly to Corfu
- Day 8: Corfu
- Day 9: Corfu
- Day 10: Day trip to Paxos & Antipaxos
Kick off your trip with a day exploring Athens. Athens is an incredible city where you could easily spend much more than one day, but it’s also easy to see the highlights in a day. Hit the Acropolis & Parthenon early, head to the Ancient Agora & Hadrian’s Library, grab lunch in Monastiraki or Plaka as you explore two of Athens most famous neighborhoods, and head to one of Athens many rooftop bars for an epic sunset dinner & drinks. One day itinerary here.
Day 2 grab a quick flight to Chania, one of the main towns in Crete. Chania is located on the western side of Crete and is accessible to many of the highlights I’d recommend on a first trip to Crete. I’ve put together my 5 days in Crete itinerary here. This includes all the highlights of Western Crete – Chania, Elafonisi, Falasarna & Balos Beaches, Samaria Gorge, as well as more central, Heraklion & Knossos. These are the top spots I’d recommend seeing on a first trip to Crete! You’ll want a car for this trip.
From Crete, you’ll want to fly North to Corfu. Crete is the most southern Greek island, and Corfu is located in the Ionian Island group Northwest of Athens. Despite them not being very close to one another it’s a 40 minute flight from Chania to Athens and then a 50 minute flight from Athens to Corfu, so you can easily leave Chania in the morning and be in Corfu by lunch.
I recommend spending the next 3 days exploring Corfu. You’ll also want a car here as some of the best spots in Corfu are a bit inaccessible without a car. Make sure youd dedicate at least half a day to exploring Venetian-inspired Corfu town, then a day or so hitting all the best spots in Corfu from my Corfu road trip guide here.
I recommend picking a hotel on the west coast of Corfu, home to some of it’s nicest beaches. I found resort prices in Corfu very reasonable, but if it’s out of your price range, at least dedicate some time to enjoying on of the west coast beaches.
After you’ve explored Corfu’s highlights, take a day trip to nearby Paxos and Antipaxos. There are many boat tours that run daily from Corfu and allow you to explore the stunning beaches of Antipaxos, the infamous Blue Caves of the islands that can only be reached via boat, and explore the charming island of Paxos on your own for a few hours.
Travel Guides to Help with Planning:
14 Day Greece Itinerary
If you’re lucky enough to spend two whole weeks in Greece I highly recommend taking advantage and seeing a variety of places and islands in different island groups!
14 Days in Athens, Mykonos, Paros, Naoxs, Santorini, Crete & Corfu
14 days gives you so much time to see a variety of places in Greece and not rush to see it all. I highly recommend trying to see 2 or 3 different island groups in addition to Athens if you have that long to explore!
- Day 1: Athens
- Day 2: Ferry to Mykonos
- Day 3: Mykonos
- Day 4: Ferry to Paros
- Day 5: Paros
- Day 6: Ferry to Naxos
- Day 7: Ferry to Santorini
- Day 8: Santorini
- Day 9: Fly to Crete
- Day 10: Crete
- Day 11: Crete
- Day 12: Fly to Corfu
- Day 13: Corfu
- Day 14: Corfu
I always recommend starting your trip with a day in Athens since you’ll most likely need to fly through Athens to get where you’re going anyways! One day gives you time to see the historical highlights and explore a bit of Athens before venturing to the islands. Hit the Acropolis & Parthenon, Ancient Agora, explore Monastiraki & Plaka, and catch an epic Athens rooftop sunset with dinner & drinks with this one day itinerary.
Spend your next seven days exploring Greece’s most popular island group, the Cyclades. Start by taking the ferry to Mykonos (3 hours from Athens) Spend two days on luxurious Mykonos exploring Little Venice & Mykonos Town, catching epic sunsets from Mykonos windmills, hitting the world-famous beach parties (or just explore the beaches on your own if parties aren’t your scene) All my Mykonos advice on where to stay, what to do, best restaurants and more can be found here.
Next stop, Paros! Paros is best explored via car. Spend your two days exploring the route along the coast of Paros stopping in the picturesque towns filled with colorful doorways and hanging flowers, and hit some of the sandy beaches located around the island before taking the short ferry ride to Naxos. Naxos is a bit quieter than Paros and Mykonos, known for it’s lush greenery and olive & citrus production. Spend two quieter days exploring charming Naxos via car.
Last stop in the Cyclades – infamous Santorini. Spend your next two days exploring the world-famous Santorini. The views & sunsets do not disappoint (although the crowds can be a lot in the high season!) Some of my favorites are sunset in Oia, a caldera boat tour, Santo Wines, hiking from Fira to Oia) See my two day in Santorini itinerary here!
From Santorini fly to Chania, Crete. This will require a quick stopover in Athens, but you should be able to leave Santorini in the morning and be in Crete by early afternoon. Spend your next three days exploring my favorite of the Greek islands. Crete is the largest and most Southern Greek island. Crete is a bit less popular than the Cyclades and has a more authentic feel to me. It’s also super cheap, has the best food, the landscape is unreal & is known for having some of the most famous beaches in the world.
Use your three days to explore the highlights of Western Crete (Crete is too big to see it all in 3 days, but if it’s your first time you’ll want to start with the West Coast) Explore Chania, hit the three most popular beaches Elafonisi, Balos and Falasarna and more with my 3 day itinerary.
Next, fly north for your last stop, Corfu. Corfu is a popular island northwest of Athens in the Ionian sea. This will allow you to explore a third island group. You’ll need to fly through Athens again, both flights are super short (less than an hour) so you can reach Corfu by midday if you leave Crete in the morning.
Corfu is similar in landscape to Crete, epic mountains, sandy beaches, large & green, but it is a bit more posh than Crete. Corfu has stunning beach resorts, and I highly recommend splurging for one to end your trip. The west coast of Crete is dotted with beautiful resorts on sandy beaches (they also have the best sunsets)
In Corfu make sure you explore Corfu Town & then rent a car to hit the highlights of Corfu’s coast. Corfu has some absolutely stunning destinations, but you’ll need a car to take full advantage of exploring. I’ve put together my ultimate Corfu road trip guide here with all the top spots. Don’t miss Porto Timoni, Paleokastritsa or Kassiopi!
