11 Best Rooftop Bars in Plaka(& Yes, I Tried Them All—For Research)

Updated on:

On my second trip to Athens I had already hit all the “must see” tourist highlights, and decided to dedicate my time hunting down the best rooftops and restaurants in Plaka, all in the name of research for this website, of course, and not because I love a drink with a view. I was pretty jetlagged from a redeye flight, but there were so many places to try. Athens does not disappoint when it comes to rooftops, especially with Acropolis views and unreal sunsets.

Grabbing a rooftop drink or dinner is an absolute must, and an evening with a few glasses of wine is the perfect way to end a long day of exploring the city. Below are my top recommendations if you’re looking for a spot to grab rooftop drinks or dinner with Parthenon views in Plaka (the main neighborhood surrouning the Acropolis)

Disclaimer: This article contains some links where I earn commission through booking. There is no extra cost to you, and I only recommend things I’ve used and love or places I’ve stayed and enjoyed!

Electra Roof Garden

Best Overall

My top recommendation for rooftop dinner and drinks would be the Electra Roof Garden at the Electra Palace Hotel. The restaurant and bar offer the most ridiculously perfect views of the sunset over the Acropolis and every table has a great view. The restaurant is semi-upscale and the food was incredible! The views alone make the prices worth it! I’d recommend making a reservation during peak tourist season, but I visited in the shoulder season and had no problem getting a table!

I stayed here on my first ever trip to Athens and had to come back for drinks on my second trip!

If you don’t feel like dinner, you can swing by and grab some late afternoon drinks. It tends to be less crowded then!

Metropolis Roof Garden

Best Pool

The Metropolis Roof Garden, in the Electra Metropolis Hotel (one of my favorite places to stay in Athens!) is one of my favorite rooftops! It offers stunning views of the Acropolis, but also has a great pool and views over the rest of Athens. If you’re planning to visit for dinner, definitely make reservations in advance. They offer a semi-upscale menu!

Thea Terrace

Best Before Dinner Rooftop Drinks

If you’re looking to grab rooftop drinks before your dinner reservation Thea Terrace Bar at the Central Hotel in Plaka is a great option. To get there, head into the lobby of the Central Hotel and take the elevator up to the Thea Terrace Bar. The bar has an indoor section as well as an outdoor patio with about twenty or so tables.

The patio has a perfect view of the Acropolis as well as just overall laid back vibes, surrounded by flower gardens. Trust me, you will never get tired of looking at the Acropolis from any all all angles during your trip to Athens.

Tudor Hall at the King George II

Best Upscale Rooftop Bar

If you’re looking for upscale drinks and dining the Tudor Hall Restaurant on the rooftop of the King George II Palace Hotel. The restaurant is consistently voted as among the best in Athens and offers Greek cuisine with a modern twist. They also offer an extensive wine list & signature cocktails. For dinner, I’d recommend making a reservation through their site. If you’re just looking for some upscale after dinner drinks, they’re open until 2AM for drinks with views!

TBH I felt slightly out of place here after a long day of exploring, it’s a fancy spot so dress the part!

A for Athens

Best for a Night of Partying

One of the more lively Athens rooftops, you’ll find this rooftop filled with tourists and locals alike all day and later into the night (2AM on weekends!) This hotel is located in one of the best areas of Athens for exploring at night, Monastiraki. Monastiraki is filled with bars & restaurants and is always bustling late night!

This is a great spot for solo travelers lookgin to make friends!

GB Roof Garden

A more upscale cocktail bar in Syntagma Square located in the Hotel Grande Bretagne. You can also opt to have dinner at the fine dining restaurant GB Roof Garden Restaurant. I was only here for a quick drink!

360 Cocktail Bar

Best Cocktail Menu

This trendy, industrial rooftop garden is located in the lively Monastiraki Square and is a popular Athens spot for cocktails. The name does not disappoint and the views from all side are epic. This is a great place for casual dinner, sunset views or late night drinks! You’ll probably find a line, but it moves quick!

Roof Garden at the Plaka Hotel

Best Casual Rooftop Bar

If you’re interested in rooftop drinks with a more chill vibe and dress code the Roof Garden Sanck Bar at the Plaka Hotel is a great option. This casual bar is furnished with comfortable couches for you to enjoy cocktails and snacks with another perfect Athens skyline view. The rooftop Garden bar is only open at night, but they do have a terrace with views that is open all day!

X Floor at Electra Athens Hotel

Electra has a series of hotels in Athens, all of which offer impressive rooftops. X Floor is located at the Electra Athens Hotel. This rooftop is slightly less lively than the rooftops at Electra Palace and Electra Metropolis, but still offers cocktails with impressive rooftop views!

Ergon House Athens

This beachy rooftop bar features stunning views, twinkle lights, swinging loungers & Acropolis views. It’s a great laid back spot where you can order your cocktails from a retro cocktail truck. This place is vibe-y and serves appetizers only. They don’t take reservations, so get there early!

Anglais Athens

A bit of a rooftop hidden gem in Athens, Anglais is highly popular with locals, but yet to be overly saturated with tourists. Featuring Acropolis views and strung with charming fairy lights they serve Italian food, like pizzas & pastas.

Safety for Solo Female Travel in Athens

4 out of 5

Athens was my first ever solo trip, and really helped me fall in love with solo traveling. I felt really safe traveling alone in Athens. I took extra caution to stay in a populated downtown area and the book rides when I had to travel late at night or early in the morning, but I never felt unsafe or worried! And as you can see from this post I went out at night and visited several bars and still felt safe!

Where to Stay in Athens

Electra Palace Athens

On my first trip to Athens, I decided to stay at the Electra Palace Hotel and I cannot recommend it enough. The rooftop pool & bar were the perfect place to relax after a long, hot day of sightseeing and the restaurant was amazing!

Location: The location made it super easy to navigate to everywhere I wanted to go & I felt safe coming back later at night.

Cost: $$-$$$ It’s a five star hotel that’s affordable (I paid $250 per night in September!)

Electra Metropolis Athens

A sister hotel to the Electra Palace, is the Electra Metropolis Athens. This 5-star hotel is in a great area of Plaka. It’s a but more modern in style than the more classically decorated Electra Palace.

The rooftop pool, restaurant and bar offer stunning Acropolis and skyline views.

Cost: $$-$$$ It’s a five star hotel that’s affordable (I paid $180 per night in April!)
