2 Days in Dubrovnik Itinerary
A few days in Dubrovnik is a must on any trip to Croatia! The charming southern Croatia city is known as the filming site for the infamous King’s Landing on Game of Thrones. The perfectly preserved Old Town and it’s walls are a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Dubrovnik is one of my favorite European cities and I could easily spend a week, or a month, wandering around there and never tire of the views, weather, food or sunsets. But, since that’s not usually possible, I’ve put together my ultimate 2 days in Dubrovnik itinerary.
Dubrovnik is small enough that you can definitely see all the highlights in two days, especially if you want to add some other Croatian cities onto your trip. See my full Croatia travel guide here. I highly recommend checking out Split & one of the many Croatia islands, like Korčula, while you’re there.

Day 1: Explore Old Town
For your first day in Dubrovnik I recommend taking ample time to explore the Old Town and the infamous walls before ending the day with the most epic sunset in Dubrovnik!
Explore the Old Town Walls
The Old Town walls are my top recommendation in Dubrovnik. The walls encircle the Old Town and offer perfect views of the quintessential red roofs Dubrovnik is known for.
I highly recommend getting there right when the walls open and exploring early! They get crazy busy, especially after cruise ships dock. It only takes about an hour to walk the walls, depending on your pace, or how many of the quaint little bars/cafes you stop at along the walls to have a coffee or drink and enjoy the views!
A ticket to explore the walls costs about $40 and can be purchases right at the entry to the walls. When you enter Dubrovnik Old Town the entrance to the walls is right there on your left. I got there right when they opened and there was already a bit of a line, but once I was up on the walls I was able to explore without the crowds.
Explore Old Town
After you’ve explored the walls and seen the aerial view of the Old Town I recommend exploring the Old Town from the ground. The small town is filled with winding alley ways, shops and a series of cafes and restaurants. It’s worth spending an afternoon wandering around and grabbing lunch or afternoon drinks.
Catch the Most Epic Sunset in Dubrovnik
Croatia has some of the most beautiful sunsets I’ve ever seen and Dubrovnik did not disappoint. Dubrovnik has a cable car that leads to a panoramic outlook that offers some of the best views of the sunset over the Old Town and the islands off the coast.
At the top of the cable car there is a restaurant called Panorama Restaurant that is the perfect place to grab dinner and drinks with sunset views. You will definitely need to make reservations in advance to get a table with a view. If you aren’t able to get a table there’s plenty of area to just stand and watch the sunset from the outlook.
You can also easily take a cab/uber to the top if the line for the cable car is too long. I took one from my hotel and it takes less than 20 minutes and was about $15. A round trip o the cable car costs about $30, so they’re comparable.
Day 2: Enjoy the Adriatic
Dubrovnik is right along the Adriatic Coast and you can’t spend time in Dubrovnik without taking some time to enjoy some sun and sea!
Spend a Day at the Beach
Dubrovnik has several beach options, but I highly recommend staying at a hotel that has a pool and beach access. I could not recommend Rixos Premium Dubrovnik more! It’s one of my favorite hotels I’ve ever stayed at. It offers an amazing pool area with beach access. The poolside bar serves food and drinks all day!
If you’re not staying at a hotel with beach access there are tons of beach options in the Dubrovnik area. One thing to note is that most of the beaches are rocky/pebbly vs. sandy.
Beach Options:
- Beach Šulić – situated right next to the main gate (Pile) entrance to the Old Town. This rocky, little beach is a great place for a swim and cocktail.
- Banje Beach – located on the other side of Old Town from Beach Šulić, popular Banje Beach is a busy beach during the day that turns into a night club as the sun sets.
- You can see a full list of local Dubrovnik beaches here.
Dinner in the Old Town
For your last night in Dubrovnik I recommend heading back to Old Town and grabbing dinner at one of the many amazing restaurants (with views, of course) My top recommendation would be Dubravka Restaurant and Cafe.
They have a wide menu of pizzas, pastas, fishes, meats. It’s a good mix of Croatian and international cuisine. And, the views are epic. Reservations can be made here.
