The Perfect Dublin Itinerary
Dublin is one of those cities that always surprises me — I expect fun, and am completely charmed every time. The pubs, the people, the history, the cobblestone streets of Temple Bar lit up at night — it’s a city that just has an energy to it. The best part? Dublin is wonderfully compact, which means you can actually see a lot in a short amount of time, and every extra day just lets you slow down and enjoy it more.
I’ve put together itinerary options for 2, 3, and 4 days — so you can plan the perfect Dublin trip no matter how much time you have. Each option builds on the previous, so you can mix and match based on your schedule.

How to Use This Guide
Two days is a solid minimum for Dublin — enough to hit the highlights without feeling like you’re sprinting. Three days is my sweet spot, and four days lets you really slow down and add a bigger day trip to see more of the country. Each itinerary below builds on the one before, so if you have more time just keep reading!
2 Days: Temple Bar, Guinness Storehouse, Trinity College, Grafton Street — all the highlights, perfectly paced.
3 Days: Everything in the 2-day itinerary, plus a half-day in Howth and a full day trip to the Cliffs of Moher.
4 Days: The full Dublin experience — all of the above, plus a day trip to Giant’s Causeway and Belfast in Northern Ireland.

2 Day Dublin Itinerary
Two days is enough to hit all of Dublin’s major highlights at a comfortable pace. Day 1 is all about the main sights and atmosphere. Day 2 digs into the history and culture.
Day 1: Arrive → Guinness Storehouse → Temple Bar afternoon & evening → Dinner at Oneill’s
Day 2: Grafton Street & Molly Malone → Trinity College & Long Room → St. Stephen’s Green → Jameson Distillery → Evening pub crawl
Day 1: Arrive in Dublin
Day 1 Overview: Arrive Dublin → Check in → Guinness Storehouse & Gravity Bar → Walk to Temple Bar → Dinner & evening drinks in Temple Bar
Getting There
Fly into Dublin Airport (DUB) — direct flights available from most major US and European cities. From the airport, the easiest option is the Aircoach bus to the city center (~€8–10, runs 24 hours, no booking needed). Taxis and Uber are also available for around €25–35.
Where to Stay
I highly recommend The Grafton Hotel — perfectly located near Grafton Street and St. Stephen’s Green, a short walk from Temple Bar, stylish and surprisingly well-priced even during the busy Christmas period. Book ahead as it fills up.

How to Spend Day 1
After checking in, head straight to the Guinness Storehouse — it’s the perfect intro to Dublin and worth doing early while you have energy. The self-guided tour takes about 1.5–2 hours, and the highlight is pulling your own pint and then taking it up to the Gravity Bar for 360-degree views over the city. Pre-book your skip-the-line ticket.
From the Storehouse, walk or Uber over to Temple Bar for the afternoon and evening. Wander the cobblestoned streets, pop into The Temple Bar pub for a photo and a pint, and browse the live music spilling out from the pubs. End the night with dinner at Oneill’s — great food (the nachos are a must), live music, and a perfect mix of touristy energy and authentic Dublin pub atmosphere.

Day 2: Culture & Pub Crawl
Day 2 Overview: Grafton Street → Molly Malone Statue → Trinity College & Long Room → St. Stephen’s Green → George’s Street Arcade → Jameson Distillery → Evening pub crawl
Start your morning on Grafton Street — grab a coffee, enjoy the buskers, and snap a photo with the Molly Malone statue at the bottom of the street. From there, walk up to Trinity College for the Book of Kells and the jaw-dropping Long Room Library. Seriously — even if you’re not a book person, that library will stop you in your tracks. Book your ticket in advance (it sells out).

After Trinity, take a stroll through St. Stephen’s Green for some fresh air, then wander through George’s Street Arcade — a gorgeous Victorian indoor market with great vintage finds and local stalls. In the afternoon, head to the Jameson Distillery on Bow Street for an excellent guided whiskey tour and tasting. End the evening back in Temple Bar or venture to a few of the more local pubs: Grogan’s, Kehoe’s, or The Celt for a more authentic Dublin drinking experience.

3 Day Dublin Itinerary
A third day opens up two excellent options: a morning in Howth for the cliff walk, and a full day trip to one of Ireland’s most spectacular sights — the Cliffs of Moher.
Day 1 & 2: As above (all the Dublin highlights)
Day 3 Option A: Morning in Howth (DART, 30 min) → Cliff walk → Seafood lunch → Back to Dublin for the evening
Day 3 Option B: Full day trip to the Cliffs of Moher & Galway (guided tour)
Day 3: Howth or Cliffs of Moher
Day 3 Overview: Choose your adventure — a scenic half-day in Howth, or a full-day guided trip to the Cliffs of Moher and Galway.
Option A: Half Day in Howth
Howth is an absolute gem and one of my favorite things I did in Ireland. Take the DART from Connolly or Pearse station (about 30 minutes, runs every 20 minutes) and spend the morning doing the cliff walk — a stunning circular route around the headland with views that will genuinely stop you in your tracks. Finish with a seafood lunch in the village, then head back to Dublin for one more evening in the pubs. Read my full Howth day trip guide here.
Option B: Cliffs of Moher & Galway Day Trip
If you only do one day trip from Dublin, make it the Cliffs of Moher. The 700-foot sea cliffs along the Wild Atlantic Way are one of those places that genuinely live up to every photo you’ve ever seen — maybe surpass them. Most full-day guided tours combine the cliffs with a stop in Galway, Ireland’s bohemian western city. It’s a long day (depart around 7am, back around 9pm) but absolutely worth it.

4 Day Dublin Itinerary
With four days, you can do it all — the full Dublin city experience, Howth, and a big day trip to Northern Ireland for the Giant’s Causeway and Belfast. This is the itinerary I’d design for myself.
Days 1 & 2: All Dublin highlights (Guinness Storehouse, Temple Bar, Trinity College, Jameson, Grafton Street)
Day 3: Morning in Howth → Afternoon back in Dublin → Kilmainham Gaol (book in advance!) OR full day trip to Cliffs of Moher
Day 4: Full day trip to Giant’s Causeway, Dunluce Castle & Belfast in Northern Ireland
Day 4: Giant’s Causeway, Dunluce Castle & Belfast
Day 4 Overview: Early departure from Dublin → Giant’s Causeway → Dunluce Castle → Belfast walking tour → Return to Dublin
Cross the border into Northern Ireland for one of the most dramatic landscapes in all of the British Isles — Giant’s Causeway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site made up of 40,000 interlocking basalt columns jutting out into the sea. It’s genuinely unlike anything else on earth. Most guided tours also include the crumbling clifftop ruins of Dunluce Castle (hauntingly beautiful) and a Belfast walking tour — a fascinating city with a complicated and compelling history. Book a full-day guided tour from Dublin, as public transport connections are time-consuming.
