Vienna is one of the most incredible cities in Europe, and there are no shortage of amazing places to stay, especially in the city center, where you’ll likely want to spend most of your time. My absolute favorite hotel in this area is Hotel Grand Ferdinand.

This hotel has all of my favorite things – an epic rooftop bar & pool, central location, on-site restaurant options, & cozy rooms to come back to after a long day of exploring Austria’s capitol.

If you’re looking for a great place to stay for your next trip in Vienna, I can’t recommend Hotel Grand Ferdinand enough.

The Location

Hotel Grand Ferdinand is super centrally located for visiting all of the highlights of Vienna! It’s located in the Innere Stadt, Vienna’s first district. Vienna is a big city in general, but many of the main attractions are walkable from the hotel or easily accessible via the U-Bahn (subway)

Walking time to Vienna Highlights:

  • Stadtpark – 5 minute walk
  • Vienna State Opera – 7 minute walk
  • Karlskirche – 10 minute walk
  • St. Stephen’s Cathedral – 15 minute walk
  • Hofburg Palace – 15 minute walk
  • City Hall (Rathaus) – 25 minute walk

The Amenities

The Rooftop Pool

A rooftop pool with sunset views? Yes and yes. I love a jam packed travel day, but having a relaxing place to come back to at the end of the day and unwind before heading out for the night is a must. This rooftop pool was so relaxing! I visited in the winter, and the pool was warm enough for a quick dip while catching the sunset before heading back inside! This would be an amazing spot to escape the city heat in the summer.

The Gym

I usually get most of my exercise in on vacation with the 20k+ steps a day from trying to see everything, but it’s great to stay at a hotel where you can grab a quick workout in the morning or afternoon before or after exploring. Grand Ferdinand offers a gym in the basement open for 6am-10pm to work off some of the schnitzel and strudel you’ll want to indulge in during your trip!

Food & Drink

Breakfast

The hotel’s breakfast is served in the stunning rooftop restaurant – the views alone are worth it, but the large breakfast spread was also lovely. They had a variety of pastries, meats, fruits, vegetables & even a make your own Bloody Mary bar! They also offered tableside service for coffees, cappuccinos and eggs made to order. It was a great way to start a long day of exploring.

Limón

After breakfast this charming rooftop spot becomes restaurant Limón, serving up a variety of Italian, French and Spanish cuisine with stunning views. Reservations are definitely recommended. Menu & other details can be found here. They stay open late, so you can also grab a nightcap here after dinner when you arrive back at the hotel if you’re dining elsewhere.

schnitzel

Meissl & Schadn – Schnitzel Love

No trip to Vienna is complete without trying one of its most infamous foods – schnitzel. Schnitzel Love is located on the main floor of Hotel Grand Ferdinand & is the perfect spot to try the Austrian classic. From their webite “real wiener schnitzel is only made of veal” so that’s the only option you’ll find at this locale, although they offer a variety of other Viennese classics, like strudel & dumplings. Menu and reservations can be found here.

The Rooms

Grand Ferdinand offers a variety of rooms for your stay. I opted for the most basic comfort room, it was the perfect place to unwind after a long day of travel. The rooms are clean, elegant, simple and have everything you’d need for a comfortable stay! Details on all room styles can be found here.
