Updated on:

Upscale Mykonos is one of the most popular Greek islands to visit. It’s filled with chic lounges, beach clubs with world-famous DJs, but also still retains the charming neighborhoods of Little Venice and Mykonos Town featuring pictursque whitewashed houses, winding alleyways, stunning Aegean sunsets and more!

To me, 2 days is plenty of time to spend in Mykonos, espcecially if you’re trying to explore nearby spots like Paros or Naxos (which I highly recommend) Keep reading for my detailed 2 day Mykonos itineray. Mykonos Day 1 Itinerary

Morning: Explore Little Venice

Mykonos most charming & picturesque neighborhood is seaside Little Venice. It really does feel like a postcard with the whitewashed houses with colorful shutters. This is also, unsurpringly, the most popular and crowded area of Mykonos. I highly recommend getting out and exploring the winding alleys of Little Venice before the crowds and the cruiseships arrive!

There are plenty of shops, alleys and restaurants/bars to explore in this area. Go slow and enjoy the views before the crowds!

Lunch with a View at Katerina’s

One of my favorite spots in Mykonos is Katerina’s, blink and you’ll miss it, but this tiny taverna has the cutest little balcony overlooking the Little Venice Harbor and Mykonos’ iconic windmills. Try the moussaka, it does not disappoint!

Afternoon: Explore the Old Port

Not far from Little Venice is the Old Port. This area is also worth exploring with tons of waterfront restaurants and bars. It’s a good place to spend a relaxing afternoon by the water and to get away from the Little Venice crowds as they pour in.

Sunset at the Mykonos Windmills

Some of the most stunning sunsets I’ve ever seen in my life were in Mykonos. Although it’s a bit touristy, sunset from the Mykonos windmills is a must-see in my opinion! There are so many great views – the sunset behind the windmills, the way the sun hits the buildings of Little Venice, the sailboats in the harbor – it was all so beautiful. Grab a bottle of wine & enjoy!

Dinner & Drinks at One of Mykonos Best Spots

After you get your fill of sunset views at the windmills head into Little Venice for a cocktail with some more views 🤣 all the little spots with tables literally right on the water are so cute. Beware of the waves splashing up over the rocks, that happens! Negrita’s was a great spot to catch the last of the golden hour views.

Some of my favorite dinner spots around this area were:

Niko’s Taverna

Niko’s is a large, classic taverna with a big patio. They offer a large menu of traditional Greek fare. I had a salad and the Pastitsio, both were delicious. And the staff was so friendly!

Kastro’s

A must-try for the views alone! Kastro’s is right on the water with tiny wooden tables in a charming alley leading out to the sea. A great place for a sunset meal!

Kazarma

Located on the Old Harbor in Mykonos town, Kazarma, offers traditional Greek food with views of the Old Harbor.

Mykonos Day 2 Itinerary

Head to a Beach Club OR Hike between Mykonos 5 Best Beaches

If you’re in Mykonos to party (as many people are) you have to spend at least one day at a beach club! Mykonos features world class DJs and is home to many famous beach clubs. From rowdy to upscaly and pricy – there are tons of options.

Best for a Classic Mykonos Experience

Paradise Beach Club – Mykonos most infamous beach club. Daily parties starting at 4PM and 10PM – entry is free, but you need to book a table in advance! This place gets rowdy, especially at night. It’s also open all day if you want to visit earlier in the day to get the experience without the chaos.

Best Late Night

Cavo Paradiso – Mykonos ultimate party spot, parties don’t start until 11PM. It’s right next to Paradise Beach Club, so it can also be fun to start at Paradise and rotate to Paradiso late night!

Best for a More Laid Back Vibe

Scorpio’s – for more of a lounge-y vibe with unreal sunset views, head to Scorpio’s. They have DJs playing from 5PM to midnight most nights.

180 Sunset Bar – great spot for sunset drinks! This is much more laid back and less clubby than any of the other spots mentioned! Super chill. You can also grab dinner here.

Make the Short Hike between the Best Beaches

If you’re looking for more of a chill day, or are up early and want to explore more of Mykonos before hitting the clubs in the late afternon or evening – there are some lovely beaches in Mykonos to explore. They’re all convenienetly connected by a short “hiking” trail. That will allow oyu to hit all 5 beaches.

  • Psarou Beach
  • Platis Gialos Beach
  • Agia Anna Beach
  • Paraga Beach
  • Paradise Beach

You can spend your morning or afternoon wandering between the 5, and stopping for food and drinks at the beach bars and restaurants along the way!

Where to Stay in Mykonos

Little Venice

If you want to be in the heart of Mykonos, I suggest staying in Little Venice. This neighborhood looks like a postcard, and is exactly what you picture when you picture a Greek island with whitewashed houses, winding alleys, colorful flowers and accents.

This area is busy and does get loud as it is where a lot of the lounges/bars on the island are located. If you’re ok with the crowds and some noise, I highly recommend staying at Little Venice Suites.

This charming little hotel is right in the heart of Little Venice and offers views of the iconic windmills and epic Mykonos sunsets. The location could not be more perfect and the rooms were adorable!

Beaches & Beach Clubs

If you’re in Mykonos to spend most of your time at the infamous beach clubs, you might want to consider staying closer to that area of the island. Although, from Little Venice you can easily catch the busses back and forth (and they run late into the night)

There are a bunch of hotel options in the Paradise Beach area (near Paradise Beach Club, Cavo Paradiso and Super Paradise Beach Club) This area of the island is definitely more sparse in terms of restaurants and amenities, but is closer to the beaches and the clubs if that is what you are looking for!

If you’re looking to strictly party in Mykonos and save by choosing a bare-boned accommodation option, you can stay at Paradise Beach Club. For the cheapest option, they have bungalows just steps from the beach that offer beds and shared bathrooms.

For a bit more you can upgrade to their new hotel “New Paradise Resort” this allows you to be close to the parties, but is a bit more of a traditional hotel experience!

Getting to Mykonos

By Ferry

Ferries from Athens and several other Greek islands run daily to Mykonos. The quickest ferry from Athens takes about 2 hours and 40 minutes. In my experience, ferries always run late, so I’d budget at least 3 hours.

From Mykonos you can also catch ferries to other popular Cyclades island, like, Santorini, Naxos, Paros, Milos & Ios.

The ferry port in Mykonos is located about 3km from Little Venice/Mykonos Town and about 30 minutes from the Paradise beach area of the island.

By Plane

Mykonos has an airport that has daily direct flights from Athens. These flights are super short (like 35 minutes or less)

The airport also has direct flights from many other European cities, like Paris Munich, Rome, etc.

The airport is located about a ten minute drive from Little Venice and about 15 minutes from the Paradise beach area (where most clubs are located)
