Best Traditional Czech Restaurants in Prague

Lokál Dlouhááá

This local watering hole was one of my absolute favorite spots in Prague. Filled with locals and tourists alike, this friendly no-frills spot serves great Czech food (and beer) at a reasonable price. It was recommended to me by several locals and I could not agree more with their recommendation!

They have all the classic dishes you’l want to try – beef goulash, dumplings, roast pork, sausages & more

Restaurace Mincovna

A gem right in Old Town Square. Usually main squares are filled with some of the most tourist-y and expensive restaurants, with not the best food, but Restaurace Mincovna is an exception, and was another spot recommended by many locals. It’s prices are reasonable, the food is delicious and the location can’t be beat!

They offfer traditional dishes like goulash & duck, and some more modern options with a Czech twist like smoked brisket (this was urneal!)

U Glaubiců

Another excellent Old Town spot for traditional fare. Goulashes, potato soups, roast duck & pork. I recommend reservations for this spot!

Restaurace Pivnice Prague

U modré kachničky II

One of the most popular traditional restaurants in prague, so much so that there is 2! You can also visit U modré kachničky the original, but i’m including the second one since that’s where I ate! The menus are similar at both and duck dominates the menu, but you’ll also find rabbit, chicken, lamb & veal!

Last, but not least! Another classic Czech spot not far from the Lennon Wall in Lesser Town. This spot is a great place to grav a traditional lunch after spending the morning exploring Prague Castle and the Lesser Town area.

Ristorante • Pizzeria Giovanni Prague
Ristorante • Pizzeria Giovanni Prague

Ristorante • Pizzeria Giovanni

A classic Neopplitan style pizza spot in the heart of Old Town Prague. These pizzas were unreal, this place also gets busy and is small, so make a reservation in advance! Their classic margherita pizza was 10/10.

Laboratorio della pizza

Another excellent pizza option in Prague. This one is on the other side of the Charles Bridge from Old Town and can be found right near the Lennon wall. It’s a great spot if you’re exploring that side of the city.

BRICK’S | Hergetova Cihelna

Dinner with views of the Charles Bridge at sunset? I’ll tske it no matter what they’re serving, but BRICK’S also is serving great food. They have steak, lobster & risotto to serve with their lovely terrace and it’s stunning views. This spot is worth a reservation. Aim for sunset

George Prime Steak

Upscale, top tier steakhouse right in Old Town Prague. George Prime Steak is not a cheap option, so you should know what you’re signing up for. But you will get a great meal in the heart of Prague. Try the onion soup & the porterhouse.

Traditional Czech Foods to Try

Here are some traditional foods to definitely try on your trip to Prague!

  • Trdelnik – you can barely go 10 feet in Prague without seeing a Trdelnik shop, these chimney cakes are cooked right in front of you over an open flame and rolled in cinnamon sugar, you can get them fillled with a variety of things and topppings added. I love vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce
  • Beef Goulash – rich, hearty filled with chunks of melt in your mouth beef and a ton of onions (this is Czech’s signature) goulash is usually served with bread or dumplings in case you weren’t full enough
  • Dumplings and Sauerkraut with roasted meat – served with roast pork, duck or rabbit this is a staple in Prague
  • Smažený sýr – Fried Cheese served with a tartar sauce
  • sausage – you will find sausage of any and all varieties on most menus. This is a staple Czech dish
