Colmar is mostly known for it storybook views, half-timbered houses, and its premier access to Alsace’s wine region and other nearby fairytale towns, but I also ate at some delicious restaurants on my trip. Colmar is small, everything is so adorable and cozy, and very busy, so I highly recommend planning your restaurant reservations in advance. I visited during the Christmas markets and truly every restaurant was full, and had signs informing you they were fully booked before you even walked in, so definitely plan ahead!
Here are my 10 favorite places to eat in Colmar + 2 of my favorite wine bars, because obvoiusly I had to try a bunch of those too! 😉

Best Restaurants in Colmar Map

Les Bateliers
Best Overall
Views & delicious eats? A perfect combo. The food is hearty and cozy (like most Alsatian restaurants) and it’s the perfect spot to warm up after exploring. Tarte flambee, pork knuckle, sauerkraut and other traditional dishes!
There is usually a line, but they manage it well and it moves quickly enough!

La Fleur de Sel
Best Terrace /Views
If the weather is nice or you can bear the cold the terrace at La Fleur de Sel is in one of the most scenic parts of Colmar and is worth a stop for the atmostphere alone. At Christmas they were selling mulled wine (vin chaud) you could grab inside and enjoy on the patio outside! The place is small and the menu is simple, but the food is good and the views are better
Lucas & Chris Restaurant
Best Steakhouse
This meal was honestly incredible. This restaurant is a bit outside Colmar’s main Old Town area, but not too far! I highly recommend the steak, also their chocolate fondant dessert looked incredible, but I didn’t get one and now regret it!

L’Arpège
Best Fine Dining
This stunning garden terrace feels like a literal fairytale escape inside the storybook town of Colmar. Their menu is filled with mouthwatering entrees of sea bass, polenta, venison, hen & duck featuring local ingredients.

Le Comptoir de Georges
I was lucky enough to snag a spot here during a weekend night on Christmas market weekend without a reservation. (I do not recommend this at all) but if you have to go late and try to get a spot! And be extra nice to the host. I had an incredible steak dinner here. The tables are quite close together and everyone around me was also raving about their food!

Restaurant La Soï
Best Tarte Flambee
If you’re going to have one tarte flambee in Colmar, let this be the one. This place is popular and busy! They don’t take lunch reservations, so get there early as they will fill up. You can call for a dinner reservation!
Caveau Saint Jean
I had another great meal at this spot in Little Venice. Another popular place, they do take walk-ins, but reservations get priority so I recommend one. Steak, tarte flambee, pork knuckle and other traditional options! The fries were also incredible.

Wistub de la Petite Venise
Best Tavern
Winstub translates to “wine room” and is a local, traditional tavern in Alsace. They offer rustic, cozy atmospheres with local wine and cuisines. I love visiting local spots when I’m traveling and this was a nice one right in Little Venice, Colmar. Very, very busy so make a reservation or squeeze in for a drink. Some of the highlights are the meatballs, pork knuckle & meunster cheese!

Marché Couvert Colmar
Best Quick Meal
I love visiting local markets in Europe! The covered market in Colmar has tons of food options with sit down restaurants, counter service and grab and go options. This is the perfect place for something quick, or a big group looking for variety, or if you want to eat like a local!
La Bonneterie – Café Brunch & Bar Apéritif
Best Brunch & Apéritif
A fun spot for brunch or drinks on your trip to Colmar. Try to pancakes or Shakshuka. This place also has great cocktails. It’s a good break from typical Alsatian cuisine if you’re looking to mix it up!
Best Wine Bars Colmar
I tried a few wine bars between Christmas Market exploring to warm up and rest a bit, and found some adorable cozy wine bars with unreal wine. Alsace is such an underrated wine region in France!
