Czech Republic Travel Guide
The Czech Republic is home to one of my favorite cities, and one of Europe’s most popular destinations, Prague. Prague is an absolutely fairy tale and one of my top recommendations on any Europe itinerary. While I haven’t had the chance to explore the Czech Republic outside of Prague yet, I’m looking forward to making it back there soon to do just that!

Safety for Solo Female Travel
5 out of 5
Prague is one of my top recommendations for a newer solo traveler looking for a city break. Prague is small, easy to navigate, and incredibly safe. I’ve visited Prague several times alone and have never felt unsafe. They’re also generally friendly to and familiar with solo travelers.
Prague has super fun night life, just be careful if you’re out drinking. This is still safe, but make sure you’re aware of how much you’re drinking and your surroundings getting back to your hotel/vacation rental.
Cost & Currency
Czech republic is not on the euro they have their own currency Czech Koruna, the conversion can be a bit confusing, but google simplifies it. $10 USD is 241 Koruna, so the prices all seem really high when you’re looking at them, but Czech Republic is actually cheaper than many other popular European destinations.
As Prague becomes more popular some costs have risen, like hotel prices, but food & drinks are still much cheaper than nearby countries like Netherlands, Germany, etc.
Tipping & Restaurants
Tipping is not mandatory, but generally customary in Prague. Usually this just means about a 10% tip for good service. If there is a service charge included on the check it’s not expected.
One thing to note, is that you can’t leave a tip on a credit card (you can’t do this anywhere in Europe) so you’ll need cash to tip.
When to Visit Czech Republic
Summer is peak season is Czech Republic, this will bring the warmest weather, but as with most other European destination, the highest hotel prices & the most crowds.
I love Spring & Fall in Prague, the weather may not be as warm, but exploring without as many crowds is so worth it in my opinion. I visited in spring last year and the flowers were so lovely.
I’ve also visited in December for the Christmas markets. Prague was one of my favorite Christmas Markets in all of Europe.
The rest of the winter can be a bit bleak, but you’ll find the lowest prices and almost 0 crowds.
Getting Around Czech Republic
Train is the best way to travel between the major cities in the Czech Republic, it’s well connected to the rest of Europe and generally fairly cost effective.
