Ultimate 2 Days in Munich Itinerary
Munich is one of my favorite cities in Germany. I’ve been lucky enough to visit multiple times, so have spent quite a bit of time there. On most trips you don’t have more than a few days in any city, so I’ve put together my ultimate 2 days in Munich Itinerary. Keep reading below for details on where to stay, what to do, best restaurants & more!

Where to Stay
If you’re on a short trip to Munich I definitely recommend staying in the Old Town area of the city. Accommodations can be a bit more expensive here, but this is where you’ll likely spend most of your time on a shorter trip.
My favorite hotels in this area are are DO & CO Hotel or Platzl Hotel, but there are lots of options depending on your needs/budget
Day 1 in Munich
I recommend dedicating your whole day on day one to exploring the Old Town area of Munich – there is tons to see and you’ll want to stop and have a traditional German lunch or a stein along the way!
Wander around Marientplatz
Marienplatz is the main square of Munich and is where you’ll see the infamous Rathaus-Glockenspiel (clock) It is the home of both the new and old Town Halls and is one of the most picturesque areas of Munich.
Visit Frauenkirche or the Church of Our Lady
The Frauenkirche dominates the Munich skyline with its two unique domes that are said to look like overflowing beer mugs. You can explore the church from the outside or you can pay to enter. It’s 7.50 Euro for entry.
Have Lunch and a Stein at Hofbräuhaus
No trip to Munich is complete without a stop at Hofbräuhaus, the infamous beer hall in the Old Town of Munich. Grab a seat at one of the large, family-style tables, grab a beer and some food, make some friends and listen to the traditional Bavarian live performers!
Climb the Tower at St. Peter’s Church for Sunset
The tower at St. Peter’s is the best spot for the most epic Munich sunset views. It only costs 2 Euro to climb to the top (it’s 300 steps) and it will give you lovely views of Marienplatz, the rest of Munich and out to the countryside.
Have Dinner at a Traditional Bavarian Restaurant
My top two recommendations for a traditional Bavarian meal are:
- Steinheil – For casual dining. Don’t be deterred by the long lines, they move fast! Definitely try the schnitzel
- Salzkruste – for a more upscale dining option – the food is delicious!
Day 2 in Munich
For day 2 in Munich I recommend taking a trip to Dachau in the morning & the spending the afternoon back in Munich to see some of the other best areas of the city!
Take a Trip to Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site
The Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site is about twenty minutes from Munich and I recommend adding it as a stop on your trip to Munich. The powerful, sobering memorial is known for being the first Nazi Concentration Camp and responsible for the death of at least 43,000. Entry is free and guided tours are available.
To get there take the train to Dachau and then take bus 726 towards Saubachsiedlung to reach the site.
Take a Bike Tour of Munich & Explore the English Garden
Once you’re back in Munich a bike tour is a great way to see the Old Town and some of the highlights of the English Garden, a large beautiful park located in the heart of Munich.
The bike tour will take you past the Surfers on the Eischbachwelle River, a manmade area of the river is dedicated to surfing now and is worth the visit.
Spend the Afternoon at Biergarten am Chinesischen Turm
The bike tour will also take you to one of the best beer gardens in Munich, Biergarten am Chinesischen Turm, located in the heart of the English Garden. Grab lunch and a beet and listen to the live music that is often playing!
Enjoy an evening at a Local Biergarten – Augustiner-Keller
For your last evening in Munich I recommend heading for dinner and drinks at Augustiner-Keller. Augustiner-Keller is one of Munich’s most infamous beer gardens and often frequented by locals. It’s a great spot to spend a night!
